Hi I generally use a small size of watercolour paper approx 15 cm x 25cm this helps you learn the process with out the need to learn extra control that you may need for larger pieces of paper. Choose a format, rectangle, square etc to suit the subject
Hope this helps

Hi Andy. Thank you for Plein Air equipment post. I have been looking at easels and only one or two lay flat ………had hoped to join you in May ! I have an old flower arranging pedestal which might work as a platform for home use and ………… no I don’t work on tissue paper!,😂😂. I think my problem with keeping paper wet is I can’t stand being cold! I think your studio might be chilly !! I have a pad of 200lb paper now and dare myself to use it as I’m sure other issues will arise!
I would like to say Andy ,an enormous THANK YOU for keeping me on my toes through this isolation period. I especially enjoyed your 24hr challenge. Just enough information to give me confidence and use all the skills you have tutored me………… thank you again. Well, suns shining, I want to sing ‘disregard this letter’ but you may not know the song by Allen Sherman! I was a child I might add!😂. Keep safe and
Keeeep Painting!

Also you may be dropping all of your 2 colours directly into the water try placing the 1st colour…[Read more]

Hi Ken, Pleased your enjoyed your 1st loose attempt and well done for trying this fun way with watercolours. To answer your question I keep the paper wet through the first 60% of the painting by first getting water on to the scene little sporadically to start with then more specifically to the area I want to work with.
