Squash and soups

Hi everyone, and welcome back to another week of loose watercolour fun! How’s your week been? Good, I hope. And with that, we’re officially in October, which means pumpkins galore, and all sorts of autumnal fun. Leaves are falling, and with that, there’s dramatic bursts of orange everywhere – perfect inspiration for getting your paints out! So there’s some budding loose watercolour subjects wherever you want to look.

It wasn’t hard to find some inspiration for this week’s live broadcast, which was ‘Peter the Pumpkin.’ It was so nice of you all to come along, and I hope you all had as much fun as I did! In fact, I thought I’d include a quick recap of this week’s broadcast in case you missed it. You can watch along down below!

There’s also another tutorial available over on Patreon this week, where you can give ‘So Loose Floral’ a go! If you’d like to give this one a try, just follow the link here: https://www.patreon.com/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours

Loose Watercolour Workshop in Leicestershire

Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th November 2025

In case you missed it last week, I’m hosting a Loose Watercolour Workshop in Leicestershire this November. For only £250, which includes a delicious hot lunch and personal tuition on both days, you can join the creative two-day workshop taught by yours truly.

Running from 10:30am-4:30pm, it’s the perfect opportunity to immerse yourselves in all things loose and lively, and we’ll go over how to capture the freedom, colour, and spontaneity of this wonderful style. In doing so, you’ll build up your confidence in using loose watercolours, as well as having plenty of fun and laughs along the way.

If you’re interested, why not drop me a message, and I can let you know the additional details.

Some Loose fun this week.

In terms of my own painting this week, I got inspired by a couple of cityscapes – in the immortal words of Blue Peter, here’s one I made earlier!

A lovely cityscape.

And that’s not all! There’s more painting fun for you all to enjoy this week, as there’s a free tutorial just below for you all to try out. I hope you enjoy painting along to ‘Trio of Roses.’

If you want to take your painting seriously this season, you might want to consider upgrading to a set of Loose Gang brushes to really make your paintings pop off the page. If so, you can find them by following the link here: https://loosewatercolours.com/product-category/loose-gang

That’s all from me just now, as I’ve just got a whiff of something delicious coming from the kitchen. Now that it’s autumn, it’s well and truly soup season, and I’m certain I can smell a butternut squash soup with my name on it! As always, this week, there’s an exclusive tutorial available especially for all of you lovely paid subscribers – after all, it’s your support that helps keep this Substack running! So I hope you all enjoy painting along to ‘Two Good Apples.’

Toby and I will be back in your inboxes very soon, but until next time, it’s goodbye from us both. Have a lovely week, and happy painting!

‘Two Good Apples.’
