Hi everyone, and welcome back to another week of loose watercolour fun! How’s your week been? Good, I hope. This week marks the start of another season, as yesterday, Monday, was the first official day of autumn 2025. That means all sorts of lovely things, like crisp leaves, crackling fires and harvest festivals – all perfect things to paint! So it’s an exciting season to get your brushes out.
It was lovely to see you all joining the live broadcast last night, ‘Florals & Berries.’ You thought summer was over? We had to have one last gasp at least, and so we took some late seasonal inspiration for this one. A great time was had by all, and I’m excited to see how all of your paintings turned out.
There’s also some more painting fun over on Patreon, where there’s another summery tutorial waiting for you if you’re not ready for cranking on the heating just yet. ‘Summer Avenue’ is a wash & line reminding us of warmer days, nice breezes, and lovely bike rides. Loose Watercolour Workshop in Leicestershire
Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th November 2025
If you fancy treating yourself to an autumnal painting break this November, why not come along to the Loose Watercolour Workshop in Leicestershire? For only £250, which includes a delicious hot lunch and personal tuition on both days, you can join the creative two-day workshop taught by yours truly.
Running from 10:30am-4:30pm, it’s the perfect opportunity to immerse yourselves in all things loose and lively, and we’ll go over how to capture the freedom, colour, and spontaneity of this wonderful style. In doing so, you’ll build up your confidence in using loose watercolours, as well as having plenty of fun and laughs along the way.
If you’re interested, why not drop me a message, and I can let you know the additional details.
There’s also another tutorial over on Patreon this week, ‘Pots of Wells.’ This one is a bright, vibrant burst of colour, inspired by all of the changing shades that are out and about now that autumn is in full swing. In terms of my own painting this week, I’ve been hugely inspired by the deep jewel tones of the season, and managed to create some dramatic cityscapes. Which one do you prefer? I’m always curious to see what you all think.
And Toby the dog has certainly enjoyed being an art critic for the day… at least, before his chew stick arrives!
And that’s not all! There’s more painting fun to enjoy this week, as there’s a free tutorial just below for you all to try out. I hope you enjoy painting along to ‘Early Meadow!’
If you want to take your painting seriously this season, you might want to consider upgrading to a set of Loose Gang brushes to really make your paintings pop off the page. If so, you can find them by following the link here: https://loosewatercolours.com/product-category/loose-gang
That’s all from me, as the one thing that’s sure about this season is that it starts to get a bit chilly. As such, I need to pop down and stick the heating on before my tea starts to get cold. As always, this week, there’s an exclusive tutorial available especially for all of you lovely paid subscribers – after all, it’s your support that helps keep this Substack running! So I hope you all enjoy painting along to ‘Curiosity.’
Toby and I will be back in your inboxes very soon, but until next time, it’s goodbye from us both. Have a lovely week, and happy painting!
