Thanks Teresa for your response! I figured out I need to use higher quality paper like Arches for the loose style.

I just bought the loose gang & subscribed to the academy! I’m practicing the techniques & my painting is terrible. Too much water where the grain in the paper is showing & water stains on the edges of the shapes. I’ve tried using less water on the paper & on the brush, but then it’s not loose.   If you watch Andy, he swishes his brush clean in water, wipes it on paper towel, then dips the end of the brush, not all the way up to the ferrule, in water. Practicing water control is an art in itself; there’s no specific instruction.
