Les saisons changent

Hello everyone, and welcome back to another week of loose watercolours! It’s been a little while since you’ve heard from me over here, and that’s because I’ve been off gallivanting for a few days down in the Cotswolds. I really got the chance to soak up the final few days of August, and had a lovely time down south practicing my plein air skills. How’s your week been? Just as lovely I hope.

I spent four lovely days down in Lower Slaughter in the Cotswolds, and it’s a beautiful place, even if the name sounds a little off-putting. But the timing turned out to be perfect – there was even a fete on at the weekend, so I got to see all sorts of exciting things!

A spot of painting in Lower Slaughter.

This painting below is another Cotswolds inspired one, this time from Ruskin Mill Gardens. I managed to do four (!) paintings on this day, and this particular one was on the banks of an apple orchard.

In terms of other paintings this week, there’s another tutorial now available over on Patreon for you to practice your own skills. ‘Bobbing Ducklings’ is a new wash and line tutorial, with a cute fun subject – so most definitely remember to feed the ducks! You can paint along here: https://www.patreon.com/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours

In case you missed it, I thought we’d spend a little bit longer on how exactly to colour shapes in your painting. Even if you watched the below tutorial last week, give it a spin one more time for a spot of painting practice.

This week, I thought I’d give you all another free tutorial to try. This week’s subject? ‘Early Meadow,’ a beautiful early morning in the flower meadow for you all to paint along with. I can’t wait to see how you all get on!

That’s all from me this week, as I’m starting to wind down for the day. It’s been a busy first day of September over here (can you believe it?), and there’s been lots of autumnal activities going on over here in Loose Watercolours HQ. As always, though, there’s an exclusive tutorial included at the end of this Substack for all of you paid subscribers, as a special thank you for all of your support. I hope you all enjoy painting along to ‘Enamel & Petals!’

Toby et moi serons très bientôt de retour dans vos boîtes de réception, mais jusqu'à la prochaine fois, nous vous disons au revoir. Bonne semaine et bonne peinture !
