Hello everyone, and welcome back to another week of loose watercolours! How’s your week been? Good, I hope. We’ve been enjoying the sunshine here this week, as it’s been lovely and breezy for once, so we’ve been making the most of it. We even had a lovely sunny day out on Sunday to go and watch the local tennis tournament, which was great fun!
It was fantastic to see you all at the last live broadcast. I hope you all had as much fun as I did painting ‘Sunset Evening’ as much as I did! Don’t worry if you missed it – you can catch the show here by following the link: https://loosewatercolours.com/new-loose-techniques/108-sunset-evening
In terms of my own painting this week, I’ve been enjoying a spot of Pleinair around the village – what better time to paint than when the sun is out and shining? I’ve been trying out a few new techniques recently, which is why these paintings might look a little different from the usual fare, but I’ve been quite happy with how they’ve turned out.
And another thing I got up to! I went for a walk with Toby this week, and we bumped into an old friend on his allotment. We had a lovely little chat in the sunshine, and he gave us some carrots that he’d grown – now Toby and I both love carrots, and we had a delicious snack. But it also inspired a new painting, so keep an eye out for a carroty-themed tutorial next week. Drop by and join in the fun!
Paint Historic Wells & Somerset: September 2025
Dann lernen Sie The Loose Gang kennen!
To finish off this week, I thought we’d take another look at some simple tips and tricks you can use to help improve your loose watercolour skills! This week, we’re taking a closer look at the wetness of the paper – and what it means for you and your painting. As always, watch the video below, then give it a go yourselves!
And here’s one I did earlier. You can see that the top of this painting really benefitted from how wet the paper was for that loose effect. And don’t miss it! There’ll be a river scene tutorial posted for this painting very soon!
That’s all from Toby and I this week, as I’m about to head out for a late Father’s Day dinner. I’ve heard the pie on the menu is extra delicious at this pub, so I’m excited already! As always, though, there’s an exclusive tutorial at the end of this post for all of you paid subscribers, as a huge thank you for all of your generous support. This week’s tutorial is ‘Two Blue Flowers,’ and I hope you all enjoy painting along!
I’ll be back in your inboxes very soon, but until next week, it’s goodbye from Toby and I. Have a lovely week, and happy painting!
