Hello everyone, and welcome to another loose watercolour week! How’s August going so far for you all? It’s delightfully sunny over here in England, and Toby and I even took advantage of the weather last week to take a trip down to the Cotswolds for a lovely day out. If you ever get the chance, it’s well worth a visit! We did some painting, and Toby even explored all of the neighbourhood pubs in the area for a bite to eat.
I also took some inspiration from the lovely scenic view down south to get some painting done, as I’m never one to not take advantage of some beautiful surroundings – especially when loose watercolours are involved!
Speaking of painting, it was great to see so many of you joining in the fun at last week’s live broadcast! I thought ‘Shadows & Shade Floral’ turned out really well, so I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did! A bright and blooming flower perfect for some summer watercolours, it really brings out the flexibility that you can create with the loose watercolour style. If you’d like to paint along tonight, the broadcast is on at the usual time of 8pm GMT, and this week’s subject is ‘Lavender Sunset.’ Here’s the link: https://loosewatercolours.com/live-broadcast/
There’s also a new floral tutorial available on Patreon this week, as the Cotswolds gave me a lot of floral inspiration from all of the flowers in full bloom. ‘Simple Blue Delight’ is a quick and easy tutorial using limited tones, so it creates a more striking picture to end on. Not to mention that it’s incredibly relaxing to paint along to! If you’d like to give it a go yourselves, here’s the link to the Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours
In terms of my own painting this week, I got up to quite a lot in the studio. I was inspired by the single use of a colour in the Patreon this week, and decided to try it with my own work, and so ‘Green Street’ was born! This one is a cityscape, but I still think that the limited colours work very well.
I also got up to some more colourful paintings as well, with ‘Dry Boats.’ I was very happy with the final result here, especially how the colours have all bled together to create the blurred effect.
And of course, if you’d like to get your hands on your very own Dangerous Dave and Mini Dave (who’ve helped create all of the paintings you can see above), you can! Just pop along to https://loosewatercolours.com/product-category/loose-gang.
That’s all for this week, as the Olympics are still on, and there’s a spot on the sofa with mine and Toby’s names on. After all, what better to do in the sunshine than to relax, paint, and catch a bit of sports in the sunshine? The exclusive tutorial this week is ‘Flower Technique,’ as the floral theme is continuing here. As always, an enormous thank you to all of you for supporting this Substack, and I hope you all enjoy painting along to this delicate flower!
Bis zum nächsten Mal verabschieden wir uns von Toby und mir und wünschen euch viel Spaß beim Malen! Wir hoffen, ihr habt alle eine tolle Woche!
