A crisp breeze in the air

Hello everyone, and welcome back to this week’s edition of Loose Watercolours! How have you been? Good, I hope. It seems that September is here again, and with it, plenty of colours and autumnal inspiration abounds. There’s a slight chill in the air, but nothing too cold as of yet – it’s like the season is holding its breath, waiting for the winter to come. How’s your week been? Whatever you’ve been up to, I hope you’ve found a little time to relax and enjoy all that September brings.

It was so lovely to see you all at the last live broadcast, ‘Autumn Doves.’ Thanks for joining me! As always, our live broadcasts take place on Monday evenings at 8pm (GMT), and you can join us through either Loose Watercolours or Patreon, as I stream to both platforms simultaneously. So, just pick whichever is most convenient for you, grab your paints and join me for an evening of relaxed watercolour painting.

If you’re looking for some lovely loose watercolour inspiration, why not take a look at last week’s broadcast? Below, you’ll find a beautiful gallery showcasing some of your versions of ‘Autumn Rest.’ Let me know if you can spot yours, and click here to enjoy some more.

If the new season has got you thinking about all things cozy and warm, perhaps you’d like to stop in front of a crackling fire and do a spot of painting? If so, then there’s a new tutorial over on Patreon for you. This week’s subject is ‘Autumn Scruffy Dog’ (can you tell there’s been a change in season?) If you’d like to paint along, you can find the link here: https://www.patreon.com/cw/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours

I think there’s still a few dregs of a hot drink left in that cup, and the fire’s still warm. So why don’t you try another one as well? There’s also a tutorial over on the website if you’d like some floral inspiration – this week’s is ‘Poppy Trio’ – which you can try by heading over to loosewatercolours.com.

And as a final send off this week, there’s also a free tutorial for you to try here, and you don’t have to go anywhere for this one. Give ‘Lavender Bees’ a try by watching the video just below, and let me know how you get on. I’m always excited to see your work!

Similarly to last week, a change in seasons is often a great time to look back at what you’ve already managed to achieve over the year. Likely more than you’ve realised, I’ll bet. So I’ve once again been looking through past paintings, and I’m just wondering – which one do you like best? Feel free to let me know in the poll down below.

Flowers on the table.

Window scene.

Or perhaps the train station?

It might be time for a toolkit refresh, or maybe you just fancy treating yourself to something nice. If so, why not upgrade to some new brushes for your painting practice? You can get your very own set of Loose Gang brushes by following the link just here: https://www.patreon.com/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours/shop/loose-gang-brush-set-28089?source=storefront

That’s all from me this week! The nights are starting to draw in, so Toby and I are off for a nice walk in the crisp evening air before it gets a little too spooky outside. As always, there’s an exclusive tutorial waiting especially for all you lovely paid subscribers. Your generous support helps keep this Substack going, and I’m so very grateful for each and every one of you! This week’s tutorial is ‘Poppy Hillside,’ so I hope you enjoy painting along with me.

Toby and I will be back in your inboxes very soon, but until then, have a wonderful week, enjoy the changing seasons, and, as always, happy painting!

‘Poppy Hillside.’
